After our challenging hike to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, we knew we needed something a bit easier the next day—and Piz Sorega turned out to be the perfect choice! Located in San Cassiano, in the Badia Valley of the Dolomites, this area is not only stunning but also incredibly family-friendly.
To kick things off, we took the gondola from San Cassiano to the Piz Sorega plateau. The ride up was a breeze and gave us beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Once we reached the top, we found ourselves at Refugio Piz Sorega, a true paradise for kids (and adults too!). This refuge is a family-oriented spot with a large playground and plenty of activities to keep the little ones entertained. There’s even a BAU BAU area for dogs, which was a hit with our furry friend!

After exploring the area, we decided to warm up and relax for a bit. We enjoyed some delicious food and, of course, a warm vin brulê (mulled wine), perfect for recharging and warming up from the mountain chill.
From Refugio Piz Sorega, we enjoyed a leisurely 10-minute walk to Refugio Las Vegas, another cozy stop with beautiful views. This walk was easy and relaxing, making it perfect for families with young children or anyone looking to take it slow.
The area around Piz Sorega is also well-connected to the Alta Badia ski and hiking area, linking to towns like Corvara, La Villa, and San Cassiano. Whether you’re visiting in summer or winter, there’s always something to do. During the summer months, there are many hiking trails to explore, while in winter, the area becomes a popular ski destination.
If you're traveling with kids or just looking for a more laid-back day in the mountains, Piz Sorega is definitely a spot worth checking out!
